Phoenix Coyotes coach Dave Tippett confident of Shane Doan remaining with club -NHL Update
It has been a while since any update came out on Phoenix Coyotes’ captain, Shane Doan, who seems to be disgruntled at his team’s unfortunate ownership issues, but head coach Dave Tippet came out on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, to show his optimism towards the situation.
Tippet reassured the media and fans that he was confident that Doan would remain with the team but could not make any confirmations on the matter, terming only time being the only true test.
For now, the biggest clearance that was given by Tippett was his revelations on him not being in any contract negotiations with other teams who are interested in Shane Doan, but at the same time said that he was not doing the same with the veteran captain.
"I'm certainly not involved in any contract negotiations, but there are lots of conversations back and forth, making sure he knows that we're going to try to do everything we can," said Tippett. "We certainly don't want him going anywhere, and I'm probably no different than the other teams trying to come to their place, I'm just trying to convince him to stay."
With recent reports surfacing on how the Buffalo Sabres were believed to have offered the captain a $30 million contract, Tippett was talking to NHL.com and let out what his heart for the captain.
"I deal with what is reality for us, and until that happens we won't go down that path," he added. "I still think there's a good chance that things will work out and Shane will stay. That's my mindset now."
For now, there is mystery in whether Phoenix’s situation will be getting any better during the limited remaining offseason and whether Shane Doan will compromise on his stance as leaving if Coyotes cannot solve their problems.
Picked up seventh overall back in 1995, Shane Doan has always been a part of the Phoenix Coyotes organisation and has become the face of the organisation. Some even might say that this year was his last, but at 50 points, (22 goals, 28 assists), the captain has more in him than most expect.
