The Phoenix Coyotes continue to struggle as they lost to the Los Angeles Kings 1-0 at the Staples Centre on Thursday. A win for either team is crucial, as they are caught up in a close battle between six teams who are battling out for a National Hockey League
play-off spot.
The game started off with the defence totally dominating the proceedings. The play of both teams was superb and did not give the opposing side any space to work. The second period followed on the same roads, but the scores were still level on 0-0. The final
period saw the Coyotes coming out strong, but it was the Kings who scored the winning goal in the final period. Jonathan Bernier, goal-keeper of the Kings was named the Star of the Game, as he made 25 saves.
Both the teams started of constructing plays and going past the opposing defence, but they were not successful in doing so. There were several attempts made by the teams to get past the defence, but they were on top and did not allow the players to go through.
The teams were restricted to almost nothing during the course of the first period, as the period ended with the scores level on 0-0. During the course of the period, the Kings made 4 goal attempts, as the Coyotes managed 7 shots on goal.
The second period was more or less the same with the only difference being the fact that the Kings managed to come up with a strong offence this time out. There were chances for the Kings that could have easily found the back of the net, but this did not
happen.
The Coyotes also created some decent chances, but they too were unable to score, as the second period also ended goalless. During the course of the period, the Coyotes made 7 shots on goal, as the Kings managed 9, but the scores were still level on 0-0.
The final period began with the Coyotes starting off as the stronger of the two teams, as they came up with some brilliant pieces of play and almost scored in the 7th minute. It was the Kings who scored the opening goal of the game in the 13th
minute to get into the lead.
The goal was scored by Jarret Stoll during power play from a powerful strike that went flying into the back of the net. Though the Coyotes came up with couple of goal attempts, they were unable to score. The Kings won the game 1-0 in the end, as the final
period saw the them making 5 shots on goal, as the Coyotes managed 11 goal attempts.
