Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Adrian Aucoin supportive of hockey in Arizona –NHL offseason Update
Phoenix Coyotes are still uncertain of their position after being on sale even before the playoffs began due to financial constraints and ownership issues which have afflicted the team for the past two years.
Initially, it was thought that Phoenix Coyotes would be sold instead of Atlanta Thrashers and relocate to Winnipeg to for the new Winnipeg Jets team, but it turned out in the exact opposite way.
Phoenix is still well and alive, and the most interesting part about this seems to be is the fact that having been put on sale nearly two years ago, Coyotes have had two of their best seasons up till date in that timeframe.
Adrian Aucoin, Phoenix Coyotes veteran defenseman, hopes that the club will remain in Arizona, but according to him, nothing can be said until a final decision is made, which is not fixed, but could happen at any time.
Otherwise, there is nothing to worry about.
“The luxury we have is as soon as you step on the ice, none of that stuff really matters because we’re there for one reason. It doesn’t matter who owns the team we’re going to be playing as hard as we can”, Aucoin said.
Aucoin, a 38-year-old player from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, was drafted as the 117th overall pick during round-five of the 1992 National Hockey League (NHL). He played six straight seasons with Vancouver Canucks after being traded to Tampa Bay
Lightning, following a transition to New York Islanders, Chicago Blackhawks, Calgary Flames and finally, Phoenix Coyotes.
Without a doubt, Adrian Aucoin has been moving a lot during his career, which not only affects him but his family also. Keeping Coyotes in the desert would allow for many players on the team to continue living their lives while enjoying the game.
“As far as family and everything goes, it would be really nice to get it settled just so knowing that where everything’s situated and especially in my case with young kids. And if I’m hoping to retire in Phoenix I’d love to know that there’s going to be
hockey in the desert. That’s a huge factor”, Aucoin added.
Developments on Coyotes status are expected before the 2011-2012 regular season begins.
