Phoenix Coyotes disappointed at elimination but happy with performance -NHL Update
Just as Phoenix Coyotes were rebounding in the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Western Conference Playoff Final, Los Angeles Kings eliminated them in Game 6 and killed all hopes of making it big and finally grabbing that championship.
Losing the opening three matchups of the series certainly put Phoenix Coyotes down and critics termed it to be over it total. Defying all odds, they rebounded in Game 4 at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles and having the next at home at the Jobing.com Arena
in Glendale, Arizona, Coyotes just lost it again.
"That's what's most disappointing about it -- that we didn't play the start of the series they way we did at the end," Coyotes winger, Ray Whitney, said. "We just didn't do what we were supposed to do for the first three games and it showed. We played better
the last two or two-and-a-half games, but we were just a little too late. Our readiness to compete at that level, the level that they were playing at, just wasn't there early in the series."
Phoenix played outstandingly well in the opening period of Game 5 and could have easily taken the match, but sluggish playing in the remaining periods led to their overtime loss. OT was also something Coyotes were great at as all but one of the matches against
Chicago Blackhawks headed into post-regulation.
"That was our best period of the series and I'm disappointed in myself on the play they got the goal," Phoenix goalie, Mike Smith, said.
There were a number of factors to why Phoenix Coyotes lost the series against Los Angeles Kings. Unable to capitalise on power play advantages, letting Kings’ players get to Mike Smith too much along with top notch players like Ray Whitney and Radim Vrbata
failing to pot the points.
Next seasons will be one that Phoenix Coyotes need to improve on their weaknesses and hopefully make another run for the championship. It will definitely be interesting to see whether Phoenix Coyotes help captain Shane Doan in achieving his lifelong yearning
of a Stanley Cup or fail once again in executing.
