Phoenix Coyotes frustrate Chicago Blackhawks, get second straight 4-1 -NHL Update
Phoenix is yet to win more than two in a row in the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season and have their eyes on the third straight after the Coyotes managed to dominate and frustrate the Chicago Blackhawks to win, 4-1, Tuesday night, November
29, 2011, at the sold out United Center in Chicago, Illinois, United States.
Radim Vrbata, Phoenix’s veteran right winger who would not like it anywhere else rather than on the Coyotes line up, bumped up his total in this season so far to 21 points (12 goals, 9 assists) in the past 23 games by grabbing two assists and a goal against
Chicago.
Coyotes captain, Shane Doan, was also focused going into their Tuesday night matchup as they are looking to take over the Western Conference with 29 points and hopefully more in the upcoming days.
"We needed to respond, just for our own minds," Doan said. "When we're playing well as a group, we can get up the ice and pressure the puck and take away time and space to be successful. But you're not going to do that too often to (the Blackhawks). The
next team that plays them, it won't be very much fun for, I'm sure."
Daymond Langkow opened the scored with his fourth of the season with less than five minutes to go in the first penalty-less period of the night, followed by Shane Doan nearly midway through the second period.
Sean O'Donnell gave the first power play advantage of the night after Doan’s goal, but the Coyotes failed to capitalise on it.
Radim Vrbata came out strong in the final period for his 12th of the season in the first two minutes of regulation while Ray Whitney extended the lead out of Chicago’s hands for a near shutout but was diverted as Patrick Sharp got them on the
scoreboard at the 19:17 mark.
"We're resilient," Doan added. "Either that or we're inconsistent. We're trying to figure out which one it is."
Phoenix will be eyeing their third straight win against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday while the Chicago Blackhawks are set to host the New York Islanders on Friday.
