Phoenix Coyotes get Chicago Blackhawks on edge with 3-2 overtime win -NHL Playoffs Update
Chicago thought they would get the best of Phoenix, a team which was playing without Raffi Torres, but Coyotes stayed focused and grabbed a dominating edge over Blackhawks with a 3-2 overtime victory to put them on the edge of elimination after game 4 of
the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Playoffs Western Conference Quarterfinal series.
It was not till the third and final period of regulation that Chicago and Phoenix began scoring goals after an intense 40 minute competition of player’s exchanging fists and roughing each other up as the tension rose between the two sides.
Playing in front of a sold-out crowd at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, is never an easy task but Coyotes managed to pull through despite a tough comeback by Blackhawks.
"We've been preparing for tight playoffs like this for well over a month, well, all year, but the last month we've been preparing saying, 'We're going to play tight games, how are we going to respond in tight games, how are we going to deal with adversity,'
"Phoenix coach, Dave Tippett, said.”This has been going on for a long time for us. Our players in here, I think they're thriving under the pressure, I think that's great for our group."
Phoenix captain, Shane Doan, kicked off the scoring with his first of the series in the third round, followed up by Taylor Pyatt only 44 seconds later to extend the lead.
Chicago fired back with Brendan Morrison and Michael Frolik on the rebounds to level the game with less than two minutes remaining and force the overtime extension.
Mikkel Boedker finalised the contest with his golden goal just 2:15 into overtime, shocking the Chicago team and crowd as Blackhawks have now one game left before they just might be eliminated.
"It went in and it's an amazing feeling," Boedker said.
Will Chicago manage to stick around for a game 6 contest, nothing is sure as of yet as both teams face-off in game 5, this time as the series heads back to Phoenix, giving a chance to Coyotes to advance to the semi-finals.
