Phoenix Coyotes not looking for any action in deadline according to GM Don Maloney -NHL Update
Expected to be one of the leading teams in switching around their players in search for new ones before the fast approaching National Hockey League (NHL) trade deadline, which is on February 27, 2012, Phoenix Coyotes general manager, Don Maloney, has killed
off all speculations by confirming that they are not looking for any action this time around.
For Maloney, his current Phoenix Coyotes club seems to be doing the job in his view and it is not hard to agree as the team has managed to straighten up their act following the 2012 NHL All-Star Game by capturing the seventh number spot well in time before
the playoffs are set to begin.
“I like the group, I like the mix, I like our chemistry,” Maloney told the Arizona Republic. “We’ll still work very hard to see, ‘Can we make it a little better?’ But we’re not looking to take anything off our roster."
February has also brought the Phoenix team some much needed good luck as Coyotes have won seven of their past eight contests, with a single loss against Vancouver Canucks and some major wins over teams like Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks and Chicago
Blackhawks.
“I just think we’re in a good place where players know their roles, know what to expect and if we do this and stay healthy, then we’re a playoff team,” Maloney added.
Another thing which led Maloney to not take the trade deadline too seriously was the lack of prospects he was looking forward to. For him, there are not enough sellers out there and the team does not want to overspend at the moment either.
The team is reportedly trying different strategies not only out there on the ice for better performances from its star team but also in the boardroom as well as executives work out ways to solve the various problems.
“I hope something falls our way to give us a little better chance at the trade deadline, but [we are] not holding our breath,” Maloney stated.
Despite Maloney’s contradictions to making a move, the possibility of a Phoenix Coyotes sneak attack still cannot be ruled out and should not at any cost.
