Phoenix Coyotes place centre Kyle Turris on IR

General Manager Don Maloney has announced that Kyle Turris has been placed on the Phoenix Coyotes' injury reserve list after sustaining an undisclosed upper body injury in Friday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers.
The injury likely stems from a hit from behind by Edmonton Oilers forward Andrew Cogliano at the 10:02 mark of the first period. Cogliano was assessed a five minute major for boarding, as well as a game misconduct. The NHL did not hand down any additional
punishment to Cogliano. Turris is listed as week to week.

Drafted in the first round, with the third overall pick, the young centre played in 15 games for the big club this season. In that time span, he notched four goals and two assists for six points. He also registered a rating of -3. Turris struggled in the NHL
for the 2008-09 season. He was sent back down to the minors for the 2009-10 season, where he had 24 goals and 63 points in 76 games. His performance was rewarded with a second chance in the NHL.

The Coyotes organization has decided to fill that empty roster spot with Oliver Ekman-Larsson, the team’s sixth overall pick in the first round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. The 19-year-old Swede began the season with the Coyotes but was assigned to the team’s
American Hockey League affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage, earlier this month. The young defenceman played 14 games for Phoenix and put up three assists and a rating of +1. While down in San Antonio, Ekman-Larsson earned two assists in four games played.

The announcement comes just hours before the Coyotes and Oilers square off again. The recent developments could add fuel to the fire as the fledgling Oiler tries to cool off the red hot Coyotes, who look to extend their win streak to seven.  The Coyotes may
look to avenge their team-mate by playing a physical game or by embarrassing the Oilers on the score sheet.
