Phoenix Coyotes rally in third to overtake Nashville Predators 3-2, for second straight -NHL Update
After an intense first period competition, the Phoenix Coyotes rallied in the third period to take control of the contest during the final minutes as Keith Yandle made the game-winning shot and overtook the Nashville Predators, 3-2, on Tuesday night, December
6, 2011, at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, United States.
Two straight losses against the Winnipeg Jets and Philadelphia Flyers were a wakeup for Coyotes as they bounced back and have won the next two back-to-back starting off with the Chicago Blackhawks earlier on Monday and now Nashville.
"We have a good group in there," Phoenix coach, Dave Tippett said of his team. "They love to work hard and they like to have fun. Winning is what it's all about for us, and sometimes it's not pretty, but our group gets in there and they dig down and find
a way. That's kind of been our motto all year."
Taylor Pyatt added the first of the night only nine seconds into the opening period, which they were able to maintaining until the final minute as Jack Hillen leveled the match for Nashville with 12 seconds remaining to go.
After a scoreless second period, Ray Whitney came out strong and added another quick Phoenix goal for his 10th of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season only 1:40 into the third to break the tie, but again was answered by veteran
defenseman, Shea Weber, with less than eight minutes remaining.
As the last period progressed, Keith Yandle, took control of the puck and fired off the game-winner with less than two minutes remaining giving Phoenix the valuable two points.
"We've had such a good home record here in the past," Weber said. "Right now, teams look at our record and see we're not playing very well at home and maybe they're l*****g their chops to come in."
Phoenix will definitely be looking for a third straight win when they face the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday to end their three-game road trip while the Nashville Predators have the next in Columbus where they will face-off against the Blue Jackets the same
day.
