Phoenix Coyotes sign Patrick O’Sullivan to one-year, two-way deal –NHL offseason Update
Phoenix Coyotes added depth to their attacking line-up by adding forward player, Patrick O’Sullivan to a one-year, two-way deal, of which the financial terms and conditions were not included due to the franchise policies of the team.
At the moment it is hard to determine what sort of effect O’Sullivan will have on the Phoenix Coyotes team, because at one moment of his career, he was on-top of the league, but now is facing a slump.
The Toronto, Ontario, Canada native, was drafted as the 56th overall pick in round-two of the 2003 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft by Minnesota Wild. O’Sullivan continued to play in the minor leagues with Mississauga IceDogs in the Ontario
Hockey League (OHL), a team with which he played four seasons with before joining the major league.
O’Sullivan has also played for the United States World Junior Championship team on a number of occasions, along with Houston Aeros in the American Hockey League (AHL) for a single season in which he contributed an impressive 93 points (47 goals, 46 assists)
in 78 games.
The 26-year-old appeared in his first NHL season after he was signed on by Los Angeles Kings who acquired him in June of 2006 from Minnesota Wild for Trevor Lewis and 17th overall pick in the 2006 draft.
He played 44 games during the 2006-2007 season in which he manage to score 19 points (5 goals, 14 assists). This performance was enough for Kings to give him another chance and O’Sullivan certainly did not disappoint as he potted 53 points (22 goals, 31
assists) in all 82 games. It was his best season and since then, Patrick O’ Sullivan has not seen a better one yet, but has rather fallen each year.
Edmonton Oilers acquired the young forward during March of 2009 along with a second round draft pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft from Carolina Hurricanes who had temporarily obtained him from Los Angeles for Justin Williams.
Last season O’Sullivan returned to his original draft team, but failed to impress, as he only appeared in 21 games and scored a mere seven points (1 goal, 6 assists).
It is highly unlikely he will transform Phoenix’s line-up, who on the other hand, mainly intend to use him as a recall.
