Phoenix Coyotes unsecure even after the successful season by finishing finalist in their conference
Phoenix Coyotes, who play in the Western Conference of National Hockey League, experienced a very happening last season which was full of ups and downs. They lost their key player and goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov and were down and out until few games left in
the regular season.
They made an amazing comeback and won five matches on the trot to claim the playoffs berth and went on to win title after 32 years. They won the Pacific Division title and finished 3rd in the conference, whereas they 9th with few games
left.
They defeated Chicago Blackhawks in the Quarter-final and Nashville Predators in the semifinals because losing to eventual champions Los Angeles Kings in the finals.
This season they are also doubts that might end up losing their key player Shane Doan. It is not confirmed whether he would re-sign with them but if he does not, it would be a big problem for Coyotes.
Doan has continuously been saying that he would like to stay at the place where he has played since he started but it is not finalised yet. Phoenix Coyotes’ general manager, Terry Bross said while talking to Sarah McLellan of Arizona Republic that their
forward might sign before mid September as he said,
"Shane is going to sign a contract before the CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) expires on the [Sept.] 15th," Bross told McLellan. "[Ownership has to] be done before the 15th, otherwise we're signing somewhere because we don't know what the new CBA is
going to look like, and I don't know if it's going to limit any scope of a contract, so we want to make sure we sign before then. I guess from that respect, time is ticking."
Shane Doan has been one of the higest scorers for Coyotes and another problem for them is that their leading point scorer from last year, Ray Whitney has already left them. Doan was third highest scorer for them last season and has been contributing for
them. They would like to keep him as well and make him play alongside Steve Sullivan, their latest signing.
