Phoenix Coyotes welcomed home, fans livid about second round entry -NHL Playoffs Update
Phoenix fans were always disappointed at the outcome in recent years as their team failed to get into the playoffs or were eliminated right in the opening round, but now, they have a reason to celebrate and they are not going to slow down anytime soon.
The anticipation and excitement could be seen on the faces of hundreds of fans that showed up to welcome their Coyotes team back home after eliminating a team like Chicago Blackhawks in Game 6 of the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Western
Conference Playoff Quarterfinal series.
It was estimated that over 400 people showed up to the occasion on Tuesday morning, April 24, 2012, to welcome their team home and show support for the Coyotes, who will now be facing the rowdy Nashville Predators in the semi-finals.
"People outside of here can be hard on the city and the fans, because that's the media perceptions," Coyotes captain, Shane Doan, said. "But our fans supported us through everything, and when you see a turnout like this it assures you that it works here
if you give them a chance."
Doan, along with Phoenix had not been past the first round of playoffs since the 1999 playoffs, which made the event even more special as fans have high hopes vested in a remarkable Coyotes group that is planning to go all the way now.
"To see the Coyotes celebrating like that, to be moving on, it was special and we have such a special group of guys," Doan said. "It was cool to be in it, but to watch it. It's been a long time."
A number of die-hard fans that drive 50 miles plus to watch each home game and even the older group of Coyotes fanatics were all present as the team came out of the Sky Harbor Airport.
As the Coyotes progress, fans can only hope that they will see their team in the Stanley Cup Finals and contesting for the most coveted prize in the hockey world. Game 1 of the semi-finals against Nashville Predators has not been announced but will be as
soon as the remaining quarterfinal matchups are decided.
