Phoenix Coyotes win 3-0 against the Colorado Avalanche
Phoenix Coyotes hosted the Colorado Avalanche this Monday at the Jobing.com Arena. This was the 800th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. Both teams were pretty much evenly matched and both had the share of scoring chances but they
couldn’t capitalize from the chances.
However, in the end it was the home team Phoenix Coyotes who won the match 3-0 as they scored a goal in each of the three periods. Ilya Bryzgalov, goal keeper of the Phoenix Coyotes was named the star selection of the match after he made 26 saves out of
26 shots fired on his goal and maintaining the clean sheet.
Phoenix Coyotes made a great start to game coming up with decent pieces of plays. They constructed attacks and fired shots on goal every now and then. The home team had confidence oozing and with the backing of the crowd they took the lead with a spectacular
goal in the 4th minute scored by Radim Vrbata from a well placed flick shot.
Coyotes kept on piling the pressure and chances kept on coming for them. Colorado Avalanche also came up with a few goal attempts as the period neared its end. Despite the numerous scoring chances for both teams no further goals were scored as the period
ended with Coyotes leading 1-0. During the period Coyotes made 13 goal attempts while Avalanche made 6 goal attempts.
Colorado Avalanche started the second period with a little bit of confidence as they managed to construct a few attacks and their passing got better with the passage of time. Momentum seemed to shift in their favour and it looked as if they would score.
But the frontline failed to convert the chances they got which were essential for the Coyotes to convert if they were to have any chance of winning. However, Coyotes got stronger and better as the period neared its end. The home team’s hard work paid off
as they successfully doubled their lead with the goal scored by Scottie Upshall from a decent strike in the 18th minute.
Both teams made a few more goal attempts as the period neared its end but no further goals were scored. Phoenix Coyotes led 2-0 going into the break. During the period, Phoenix Coyotes made 6 goal attempts while Colorado Avalanche made 8 goal attempts but
couldn’t score.
Both teams exploded at the start of the final period. Shots were bombarded from both teams on goal from everywhere on the pitch and every now and then. The puck was seen going here and there on ice and the pace that the game caught it looked as if a goal
would be scored soon.
This is what certainly happened as Phoenix Coyotes scored their third goal of the game in the 10th minute through Radim Vrbata who bagged his second goal of the night. The period saw Colorado Avalanche attacking and coming across numerous goal
attempts but they failed to score any goals.
The game ended with Phoenix Coyotes winning the match 3-0 in the end. The final period saw the Coyotes making 7 goal attempts while Avalanche made 12 goal attempts.
