Phoenix Coyotes win sixth straight game defeating Atlanta Thrashers 4-3
The second last game of Thursday was played at the Jobing.com Arena, home of the Phoenix Coyotes. The game scheduled for the day was the home team against the Atlanta Thrashers. Both teams were playing in the 59th game of the season with both
teams looking for a when to confirm their chances of a play-off spot.
The game was pretty much in balance with both teams scoring goals and making goal attempts regularly. However, Coyotes were able to edge out ahead of the Thrashers by a goal to win the game 4-3 in the end. Lauri Korpikoski, winger of the Coyotes was named
the star selection of the game as he scored a goal and made an important assist.
An explosive start to the game was seen by both teams as they attacked right from the word go. It was long as they first shot on goal was made with only a few second past. The teams were making goal attempts frequently and any team could have scored early.
It was Coyotes were the early beneficent from this as they scored in the 4th minute through Eric Belanger from a powerful strike to get into the lead. Both teams moved on firing shots and a power play came for the Thrashers.
During the power play the Coyotes absolutely dominated the proceedings and scored in the 6th minute through Chris Thornburn from a flick shot to get into the lead. The period continued with its attacking mentality adopted by both teams. As a result,
there were several shots on goal which saw the Coyotes scoring once again in the 12th minute through Shane Doan to get into the lead.
The period ended with the Coyotes leading 2-1 as they made 8 goal attempts while the Thrashers made 15 goal attempts.
The second period saw the game following the same flow with Coyotes coming a little stronger than their counterparts. The away side scored twice in the 5th and 10th minutes to get into the lead. The goals were scored by Andrew Ladd
and Rich Peverley respectively.
The home fans had the scare of losing the game. However, the home team was able to find their way back into the game with some spending passing and shooting. They threatened the opposing goal every now and then which resulted in the Coyotes successfully
levelling the scores as they scored through Lauri Korpikoski in the 16th minute. The goal was a result of a brilliant tip in shot.

made 10 goal attempts.
The final period was a reflection of the previous two periods with the exception of goals scored. The periods saw both teams creating scoring chances for themselves. They came up with some superb pieces of play but were unable to find the back of the net.
This remained the case for most of the period which resulted in no goals being scored during the final 20 minutes of play. Consequently, Coyotes emerged as 4-3 winners of the game. During the course of the period Coyotes made 8 goal attempts while Thrashers
made 11 goal attempts.
