Phoenix Coyotes wins 3-0 against the Calgary Flames in a brilliant shutout performance
The second last game of Thursday was played at the Jobing.com Arena as the Phoenix Coyotes played host to the Calgary Flames.
Coyotes are also another team which is caught up in a heated race for the play-offs in the Western Conference.
Flames are right below them and a win for them would not only put them above Coyotes but also give them some breathing space.
Both teams made a decent start to the game and there were some decent plays that were developed by both sides.
However, there were no goals in the first period. The second period saw the Coyotes scoring and leading 1-0 as the period ended.
The final period saw the Coyotes on the charge as they scored two more goals as the period and the game ended with the Coyotes winning the game 3-0.
Ilya Bryzgalov, goal keeper of the Coyotes was the star of the game as made 39 saves during the shutout performance.
Both teams started off the game waiting for spaced to develop. Though there were shots from every on ice but they failed to find the target early on.
The teams got their angles right and started to fire shots on goal but the keepers and the defence of both teams did an exception job during the period.
Though there were some chances which could have gone into the back of the net, this didn’t happen.
The teams started to construct plays regularly and gave each other a tough time at the back.
Still there were no goals as the defence was able to deal with all sorts of pressures.
The period ended with the scores deadlocked on 0-0. During the period, the Flames made 7 shots on goal while the Coyotes made 9 shots on goal.
The second period saw the Coyotes starting off in a brilliant manner as they scored in the second minute through Brett MacLean from well placed shots to get into the lead.
Both teams came up with a very strong offence during the period which was full of entertainment as the teams fired a total of 44 shots during the period with the Coyotes making 15 while the Flames made 19 shots on goal during the period respectively.
The period ended with the single goal scored and the Coyotes leading 1-0.
The final period saw both the teams pretty much even terms of shots on goal but it was the Coyotes who proved to be the productive out of them and scored in the fifth minute to double their lead.
The goal was scored by Eric Belanger from a decent strike.
The Coyotes sealed the deal with another goal in the 19th minute which was scored by Shane Doan, captain of Coyotes.
Coyotes won the game 3-0 as they made 9 shots on goal in the final period while the Flames made 10 shots on goal.
