Phoenix Danny seals surprise win at Oxford – Greyhound Racing Update
Phoenix Danny has made a strong start to the season, after he sealed a comfortable victory in a 450 meter Grade A1 race, held at Oxford on, January 6, 2012.
It was Phoenix Danny’s first sprint in the New Year and his trainer, S J Rayner, was a happy man to see his hound starting the season with a bang. After winning three consecutive races last year, the son of Yeah Man out of Minnies Divine lost his momentum
in his last couple of races.
Therefore, he was sent at 7 to 2 on January 6. He broke out of trap number six, and finished the race in just 27.29 seconds, winning the prize of £80.
The second position was secured by Pennys Awesom, who was the favourite greyhound with a starting price of 3 to 1. After coming breaking from his stall, L L G Magnasco’s trainee covered the distance in 27.69 seconds.
He was followed by Harlequin Haley – a young black b***h, with a starting price of 6 to 1. The daughter of of Royal Impact out of Harlequin Vista, took a fine start to the race, but could not maintain the good work till the end. Consequently, she could
only manage to get third position in the race with a finishing time of exactly 28.00 seconds flat.
The fourth and fifth positions belonged to, Yahoo Enda, and, Ballyer Bullet. The two greyhounds had a same starting price of 7 to 2. The fourth position b***h crossed the finish line in 28.13 seconds, whereas Ballyer Bullet made it in 28.19 seconds
in fifth.
The heat proved to be a nightmare for, Ballymac Shane, who completed the order of finish. Trained by G E Hepden, the greyhound was one of the highly rated dogs in the race, however, he couldn’t  live up to the expectations.
The favourite sent at 4 to 1, the son of Ballymac Kewell out of Emma Kate began the heat from trap number one.

The spectators were hoping of a good show by the young dog, but it was not an impressive display by any means. He completed the race in 28.51 seconds, the most time taken by any dog in the race.
While others were sad, Phoenix Danny’s trainer was delighted, with the show his dog put up. Since he has started the season on a winning note, he will be an important greyhound in the upcoming races.
