Phoenix Mercury 86 – Washington Mystics 79
At Verizon Center, Candice Dupree racked up a season-high 27 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists as Phoenix Mercury beat Washington Mystics 86-79 on Sunday night, snapping their two-game losing streak. It
was the eighth consecutive loss for the slumping Washington.
Dupree shot 10 for 14 shooting from the field and a perfect 7 for 7 from free throw line. Diana Taurasi had 21 points, seven assists and four rebounds for Phoenix.
Crystal Langhorne led Mystics with her fifth double-double of the season. Langhorne tallied 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the loss. Matee Ajavon totalled 15 points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals while Jasmine
Thomas came off the bench with 14 points and three rebounds for the Mystics.
Dupree scored 14 of her points in the first half as Phoenix held a 43-34 lead at halftime. Mercury limited Mystics to 21 points in the third quarter and stretched their lead to 69-55. Phoenix did not trail in the entire fourth
quarter sealed their 16th victory of this season.
Chicago Sky 74 – New York Liberty 73
Epiphanny Prince hit a brilliant three-pointer with 31 ticks left in the game as Chicago Sky beat New York Liberty 74-73 at Allstate Arena for their second straight victory.
Prince finished the game with 10 points, pinning 2 for 5 shots from down town. Sylvia Fowles recorded double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds while Erin Thorn also added 17 points in the victory.
New York’s Plenette Pierson led all scorers with 19 points while Nicole Powell added 15 points, five rebounds and three assists. Cappie Pondexter contributed 14 points and eight assists while Kia Vaughn contributed 12 points and
eight rebounds in the loss.
Chicago came out strong in the opening period and carried a 26-19 lead into the second. New York outscored Sky 21-14 in the second quarter and tied the game at 40, heading into the locker room. Liberty held Chicago to 18 points
in the third quarter and held a 60-58 advantage.
In a tightly contested last period, New York found their way to take a 73-71 lead with 50 seconds remaining. Prince then hit a brilliant three-pointer to seal the victory for Chicago.
Seattle Storm 65 – Los Angeles Sparks 63
At Key Arena, Sue Bird hit a pair of game-winning free throws with 1.6 seconds remaining in the game as Seattle Storm earned its fourth consecutive win with a 65-63 victory over Los Angeles Sparks. It was second straight defeat
for the Sparks.
Bird ended with 12 points, five steals, seven rebounds and four assists. Lauren Jackson and Tanisha Wright added 14 points apiece while Camille Little chipped in 13 points in the victory.
Candace Parker led Sparks with 19 points and 14 rebounds while Ticha Penicheiro had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the defeat. Kristi Toliver posted 12 points while Ebony Hoffman came off the bench with 11 points for Los Angeles.
Seattle headed the first three quarters of the game and carried a 51-43 lead into the last quarter. Sparks turned it on in the fourth quarter and tied the game at 63 with 01:09 remaining. Bird hit a pair of free throws in the last
second of the game to put Chicago ahead by 65-63 for good. Thompson missed three-pointer at the buzzer that could have given them the victory.
