Phoenix Suns 2009 they can still win?

Question

I think the Suns can still contend, people say they are through but they still have one of the best rosters, all their faults were in their coaching staff which has been changed to be more defensive and they are fixing another key weakness which is their weak bench which has become deep and energetic so why do people say they cant contend anymore, they are changing their makeup to become similar to a more classic championship team even though they still bring in allot of points

O ya MILKMAN for sure.......Don't let haters try to make you think any different. They will say Shaq is old blahh blahh blahh, Steve is old blahh blahh blahh and just all this c**p cause they are jealous and threatened by what the Suns have check it out:

Steve Nash (2x MVP, All-Star, assist leader, best PG)

Raja Bell (defensive first team, not afraid to p**s off the best players like Kobe)

Boris Diaw (big for his position, plus great scorer which makes him hard for other SF to guard alone)

Amare Stoudemire (Best PF, All-Star, future MVP, and best AND 1 player)

Shaq (MVP, most dominate center to ever play, HOF)

comin off the bench is all young, run 'n gun, defensively minded guys that are ready to back up our all-stars and learn form them.

any team with amare, nash, barbosa, & bell have a chance... and shaq will do his thing there, hes not what he used to be, but hes changed his game since hes been there

You're right, the Suns are my favorite team in the NBA and with Amare being at his best position (PF not C), Shaq doing a good job at C, and Steve Nash one of the best at PG, there's no reason the Suns are'nt contenders.

Because they have Shaq. There team's cap won't be flexible until he retires 2-3years from now along with then free agent Nash and Stoudemire. Nash and Shaq are both 'old' already. I don't know. I don't like their chances anymore.

the success of their 08-09 season depends on how porter will be able to adjust the players from an all out offensive team to a defensive oriented team. the suns have been playing under coach d'antoni's system for quite more than 2 years already, and to have a team change from an offensive to a defensive team is not going to be an easy turnaround. honestly speaking, i don't see any problem with the suns line up. with barbosa, diaw and barnes coming off the bench, i still think this team will be able to be one of the contenders in the playoffs. what i'm worried about is the adjustments and the players commitment to porter's system, especially with nash cause he's always played in teams with high octane type of an offense (dallas and d'antoni-coached-suns). they might have trouble winning at the start of the season due to the coaching change, but as long as the players trust their new coach, i think we will be able to see the suns finally get past the spurs this year.

I think the Suns is still no. 3 or 4 right now in the West. The East is also stronger, see Boston and 76ers line-up and don't forget King Lebron.

It will be though for them. If they are lucky, they can only reach the Semis of the playoffs.

1) It is very hard to be successful after a coaching change

2) Their style of play is definitely fun to watch, but it isn't really a good thing when you're scoring 120 a game and giving up 115. Their team defense and individual defense outside of Raja Bell is awful, so you need to hope that the new coaching staff can get them to play D.

3) They are getting old. Nash is 34 (not old, but once you get past 32 in the NBA, it's hard to be successful), Bell is 32, and Shaq is 36. When you add the production you will get out of those three old guys (Nash: 15 points 11 assists, Bell 10 points 2 steals, Shaq 14 points 7 boards) to the defense of guys like Amare and Diaw, the Suns don't have much going for them.

On a bright note: The Suns reserves can be awesome. Barbosa is one of the top 5 funnest guys to watch, when Lopez comes in he will be like Anderson Varejo's mini-me, Alando Tucker was the best rookie to not play last season, and Sean Singletary is the smartest/most dynamic point guard to come into the league since Chris Paul.

If the Suns defense comes around, and they invest time in their youngsters, they can be a very good team.

yes they can,,, and i am like the biggest suns fan here that answers this question,,, but this is what they need,,, they need to stop making these stupid *** trades,,, remember when the heat tried getting a veteran,,, i can say that they were really selfish with trading those yung players 4 shaq,,, cuz one year,,, they  one the championships,,, then 2 years l8er they were the worst team in the NBA,,, so mayB shaq can retire,,, or he can b his selfish self and still play,,, and they need a good center after that,,, amare can do it lol,,, they need some yung guys too, so maybe they can do a trade for a few young guys,,, cuz then they will be good for wat, a year? and we al;so need to see how this coach works with the suns,,, coaches mater! if he is stressing like mike dantonio,,, then they wont work,,, it is this vital,,, and they need a good center amare is a PF (he plays better) they need another big man (cant use shaq) lol. And they need Defensre,,, not from trades,,, but from JUST PLAYIN FUC.KING defense lol.
