Phoenix Suns’ President Lon Babby denies all rumours on Steve Nash and Marcin Gortat trade - NBA News
Phoenix Suns’ President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby has categorically rubbished all the rumours that have been circulating in the league, regarding the trade of the two times MVP Steve Nash.
On Wednesday, Babby made a strong statement declining that the Suns are going to trade their point guard and added that the 27 year old Marcin Gortat will also stays with the team.
"We are not trading Marcin Gortat, period. End of sentence. We are not trading Steve Nash, period, exclamation point."
Lon made the statement in the upshot of the news that was given by a sports channel that Phoenix is considering to make a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves for their number two overall pick in Thursday’s NBA draft. The news
further suggested that both the organizations, Suns and Timberwolves, were in talks to make the trade happen.
Previously, Steve’s trade was associated with New York Knicks. According to a source, it was mentioned that the Knicks are going to send their veteran point guard Chauncey Billups to Phoenix Suns in order to procure the 37 year
old Nash. Billups and Steve, both are aging point guards and their salaries are quite the same and the trade made sense initially.
However, Babby clarified the situation emphatically by saying that the franchise is not trading away their superstar.
Nash who has entered into the final year of his contract with the Suns never spoke publically that he going to shift his talent somewhere else. After the last season ended, Nash declared his desires to stay with his team which
showed that he can only be traded if he asks for it.
"This is my team. I feel like this is my home as a basketball player and I want to try to get back to the playoffs with this team, try to build this team into a contender again. It's pretty simple. There's no guarantees. You can't
just go out and say, 'Hey, can you go out and trade me to this team?' It's very abstract to think of what the alternative is. But that's beside the point. I want to be a part of this team." Nash said right after the last season was finished.
Nash is in the final stages of his career and he suggested that he will be playing a couple of more seasons in NBA. This means that he will receive an extension with the Phoenix Suns if the organization has no plans make a trade.
Phoenix has been looking for a guard who can become as good as Nash and can carry the team after his retirement. With the 13th pick in this year’s draft, it is expected that the Suns will be landing the Brigham Young
University’s dynamic Jimmer Fredette. Jimmer has the potential of becoming an NBA star and the Suns need to polish his hidden talent so he can become an instrumental guard for the team.
