Phoenix Suns agree on a three year deal with Michael Beasley – NBA News
Michael Beasley is reportedly moving to the Desert City to play with the Phoenix Suns, sources close to the negotiations have informed.
Beasley played for the Minnesota Timberwolves last season but only started 7 games and saw a dramatic fall in his statistics. He has now reached a verbal commitment with the Suns for a three year deal worth $18 million. The small
forward cannot officially sign the deal till July 11th, when the moratorium will be lifted and players can be officially signed to teams.
Beasley flew to Phoenix on Wednesday to meet with the Suns management. This was his 2nd meeting with the team, with the Suns flying to Los Angeles to meet with him earlier this week. He was the 2nd overall
pick of the 2008 NBA draft by the Miami Heat, but has over the years earned a reputation as being a troublesome player.
Many teams are believed to have given up on his pursuit because of this reason, but the Suns seem fond of him as a player.
The Suns recently finalized a deal that will send long time point guard and franchise player Steve Nash to the Los Angeles Lakers in a sign and trade deal. Both parties parted ways with the highest of regard for each other, as
they now head towards different directions after a successful partnership.
Phoenix are now looking forward to a post Steve Nash era and have started the team rebuilding already.
With Beasley on the way, the Suns are close to signing Goran Dragic and are also hoping to land New Orleans Hornets restricted free agent Eric Gordon. They have already offered him a maximum four year $58 million contract and are
now waiting for a response.
The Hornets, with a new owner and a number 1 draft pick this year, are looking to retain the services of Gordon, who is one of the best emerging shooting guards in the league. Gordon is a restricted free agent and the Hornets can
match the Phoenix offer to retain him. A final decision on the deal is yet to be made though.
