Phoenix Suns brush aside Utah Jazz 99-84: NBA Recap
Phoenix Suns went up early and never surrender their lead as they beat the Utah Jazz 99-84 here at the US Airways Center Friday night. The Suns have won back to back games for the first time since November 21st and 23rd
this year.
The Suns had trailed in double digit figures in 19 of their 23 games but it was a different story this time around with the desert city team enjoying a comfortable lead for most of the game.
"It's so much easier when you're playing downhill rather than uphill," Suns coach Alvin Gentry said.
Jared Dudley seems to have settled in the role of the power forward, he finished off with a night high 22 points in 9 of 12 shooting from the field. Goran Dragic had 17 points and 5 assists while Marcin Gortat posted a double-double
with 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Suns.
Al Jefferson led the Jazz from the front, scoring a team high 14 points and 11 rebounds. Paul Millsap added 12 points while Derrick Favors came off the bench to add 11 points and grab 8 rebounds.
Phoenix were up 6-2 early in the first period and the game was tied on 8 with a Jefferson jump shot for the Jazz. The score was tied on 12 and then again on 18 when the Suns started pulling ahead, Michael Beasley sank two three
pointers as the Suns closed the quarter with a 7 nil run to go up 34-22.
P.J Tucker made a layup early in the second period to push the Suns lead to 42-24. The Jazz went for an 8-0 run to reduce the deficit down to 34-44, before the Phoenix knocked down 2 three pointers in quick succession to push their
lead to 50-34. Dudley restored the Suns 20 point advantage over the Jazz on 56-36 but Utah closed the period with a 6 nil spurt to close the gap down to 14.
Jazz were looking good in the second half, they started cutting the deficit at a steady pace and made it 54-62 early in the third period. Millsap made a layup to make it a four point game but the Suns started pulling ahead again
later in the period and they were up 77-65, as the teams geared up for the final quarter.
Utah scored the first five points in the fourth quarter, but the Suns had other plans as they went for a quick fire 6 nil run to go up 85-72. Another 6 nil spurt put them up on a commanding 91-74 and Phoenix cruised to a 99-84
win in the end.
