Phoenix Suns draft pick Markieff Morris is heading to Greece: NBA Update
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has locked out its players over the controversial issue of new Collective Bargaining Agreement with the players association. The league owners and the players union are not coming on mutual
grounds to resolve this issue and this lockout is forcing the NBA players to consider overseas options.
Many league players all planning to play overseas during the lockout as no one knows how long this lockout will prevail in the league and this uncertain situation is still heading nowhere. Several renowned NBA players have already
signed with different European and International basketball clubs and now, young and recently drafted players are also seeking their options outside USA and hoping for a decent international contract.
This year, the NBA draft brought many talented players into the biggest basketball league in the world but the lockout has prevented those players to show their skills so far. Among others, the Phoenix Suns pick, Markieff Morris
is also considering paying overseas, most likely in Greece. His agent, Tony Dutt has been trying to find him a good international contract it has been learnt.
There have been very recent reports about his affiliation with a Greek basketball club, Panthianakos. Morris and his agent have been in talks with the Panthianakos management. Panthianakos basketball club is located in Athens and
is one of the elite hoops teams in Europe. They have won three Euro League titles out of last five played championships. Many basketball experts in the Europe are also consider the Greek basketball league as one of the toughest leagues around in Europe.
Markieff Morris has a good playing experience at the collegiate level, where he played for the Kansas Jayhawks for almost three years. In his three years of experience, he averaged 13.6 points, 1.4 assists and 8.3 rebounds per
game. His stats are pretty impressive, but instead of NBA, his career might be starting in Europe.
However, this opportunity has many loop holes too. If Morris gets injured playing in overseas, his future NBA career would be in jeopardy. NBA is not supposed to provide any of its player an insurance cover during the lockout period
and if something bad happens while playing, Morris can be in a difficult situation.
