Phoenix Suns get their first win of the season; Beat Charlotte Bobcats 117-110: NBA Recap
Shannon Brown delivered an amazing performance from downtown and scored a night high 24 points to lead the Phoenix Suns to a 117-110 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats here at Time Warner Cable Arena on Wednesday night.
Byron Mullens scored 24 points and grabbed 8 rebounds but it was not enough for the Bobcats.
"Oh man, I got some open looks and my coaches and teammates got me the ball in good position. I hit some threes and just got hot. It felt good. But the one thing you don't want to do is mess the rhythm up so I tried to keep my
rhythm going and take my shots how I work on them in practice and they were falling for me." Phoenix guard Brown commented after the game.
Phoenix Suns grabbed 50 rebounds compared to 39 for the Bobcats and were able to score 18 points off them as Michael Beasley and Marcin Gortat held on to 15 and 10 rebounds respectively.
Suns opened up with 13-9 early on in the first period and then went on a13-5 run, built on three back to back three pointers, to go up 26-14. Layups by Ben Gordon and Kemba Walker and two free throws by Ramon Sessions reduced the
deficit to 20-26; however, the Suns kept scoring and were up 31-22 by the end of the first 12 minutes.
Free throws by Tyrus Thomas early on in the period cut Bobcats deficit to 29-36. Few moments later, a Markieff Morris tip shot put the Suns up 43-34. There were no major runs for both teams in this period but the Suns kept pulling
away slowly and were up 52-42 four minutes from halftime before a brace in the closing minutes got them to 60-46 by halftime.
A Luis Scola jump shot opened up a 16 points lead for Suns at 62-46 before Bobcats compiled a 12-0 run, fuelled by two three pointers from Byron Mullens, cutting the deficit to four at 58-62. Phoenix responded with a 14-2 run though
to go up 76-60. Later on, Mullens fired two three pointers as Bobcats cut Suns lead to 81-85 by the close of the quarter.
Bobcats started the final period sharply, levelling the score immediately at 85 before Tyrus Thomas jump shot tied it again at 87, moments later. Two three pointers by Brown had put Suns up 100-93 by the six minutes mark. Ramon
Sessions’ free throws cut the lead to 105-101 at one stage but the Suns closed the game calmly at 117-110 for their first win this season.
Shannon Brown shot 24 points, going 6 of 8 from downtown while Marcin Gortat and Michael Beasley followed up their impressive rebounding performance with 23 and 21 points respectively.
Kemba Walker finished off with 17 points while Ramon Sessions fetched 17 points and 9 assists for the night.
