Phoenix Suns have no plans to trade Steve Nash

Two-time Most Valuable Player Steve Nash was involved in different trade rumors this week, saying that the struggling Phoenix Suns will eventually let go of him later this season, but head
coach Alvin Gentry said that they have no plans to trade Nash.

In an interview with the Arizona Republic, Gentry reiterated that they could not afford to lose the veteran point guard, especially now that they need a leader who can make their adjustment
much easier, and Nash fits that role perfectly.

“Steve's not going to be traded, that I can tell you,” said Gentry. “If he's getting traded, I'm going along with him, OK? Have you looked at the way he is playing? He is playing at a real
high level. Why would we trade him?”

The 14-year veteran is having a great season despite losing his former pick-and-roll Amar’e Stoudemire, who opted to sign with the New York Knicks. The 36-year-old guard averaged 18.7 points
and 8.9 assists in their first seven games this season.

Nash, on the other hand, said that he is aware of the ongoing speculation, but he is not bothered by all the talks since he is focused on helping the Suns get back on track after losing in
four of their first seven games this season.

“My personal opinion is that it’s just a lot of chatter,” said Nash. “Dreaming big would be to go to the Western Conference Finals and have a chance to beat the Lakers. We got back and did
that. Now we are kind of starting at the bottom again but let's see what we can do. Let us see how good we can get.”

But when asked how he will feel if the Suns eventually decide to go on a different direction and trade him, Nash said that he’ll be ready since it is part of the business. “I've done everything
I possibly can for this club. If that were an eventuality, we would move on. There is no real loyalty in sports,” he said.
