Phoenix Suns overcome a 19-point deficit to down Sacramento Kings 101-90: NBA Recap
Shannon Brown scored 14 of his 22 points in the third quarter as the Phoenix Suns overcame a 19 point first half deficit to drop the Sacramento Kings 101-90 here at the US Airways Center Monday night for their season best third
straight win.
Jared Dudley added 20 points for the Suns; Marcin Gortat had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds while Luis Scola notched up the second double-double for the Suns with 14 points and 10 assists.
The Suns coach Alvin Gentry was not impressed despite them winning three in a row. He highlighted the fact that Suns are still below 0.500 at the moment.
"I look on the right side (of the record) and we've got 15 losses. We can't overlook anyone. Anyone in this state. Anyone. Not even (Scottsdale) Chaparral High School." Gentry said.
Jimmer Fredette came off the bench to top score for the Kings with 22 points in only 22:21 minutes on the court. Aaron Brooks had 12 points and James Johnson also came off the bench to add 11 points as the starters for Sacramento struggled on the night missing
7 of their first 10 basket attempts.
The Suns were up 5-2 after a Goran Dragic layup and Scola tipped one in to put them ahead on 11-7. Dudley scored one from free throw line to put them up 14-8 before the Kings sprang into action and went for a 12 fpoint unanswered
run to go up 20-14. They were leading 22-16 by the end of the period.
Decision to bring in reserves early brought dividends for the Kings coach Keith Smart. A 9-2 run at the start of the second quarter had them ahead at 31-18. Fredette nailed a three pointer to extend their lead to 42-27 as the Kings
kept on pulling ahead. Sacramento were leading 54-35 with 2:30 to go in the period when the Suns showed some sparks of a comeback and closed the period with a 8-0 run to reduce the deficit down to 43-54 at halftime.
Suns kept up the good work and Shannon Brown connected one from the three point land early in the third period to cut the deficit down to 48-56. A 9 nil spurt then allowed the Suns to snatch the lead, going in front for the first
time since late in the first period. Momentum was on the Suns side by then and they capitalized on it to lead 74-68 by the end of the period.
Michael Beasley made a jump shot early in the fourth period to put the Suns up 80-73. Later on, he connected one from downtown to open up a 10 point advantage for the Suns. A 9 nil spurt put Phoenix up 97-84 with 2:37 on the clock,
and that very much sealed the deal.
