Phoenix Suns reach agreement with Goran Dragic for a four year deal – NBA News
The Phoenix Suns have had a busy week as they make moves to prepare a roster for next season. With their franchise player Steve Nash having made his intentions about leaving the club clear during the regular season, the Suns knew they would have a busy free agency and they are making every possible attempt to rebuild their team for a post Steve Nash era.
After they traded Nash in a sign and trade deal to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Suns were short at the point guard position. However, they wasted no time in picking one of the most promising point guards in free agency this year, ex-Suns Goran Dragic.
Sources have confirmed on the condition of anonymity that the Suns have reached an agreement with Dragic for a four year deal worth $30 million. The final year of the deal is a player option.
Dragic was a backup guard to Steve Nash for the Phoenix Suns and played the beginning three seasons of his career with them, averaging 13.2, 18 and 17.8 minutes in each of those three seasons. He was traded to the Houston Rockets in the 2010-2011 NBA season, his third in the league. Dragic started 28 games for the Rockets this past season after their star point guard Kyle Lowry was sidelined with injury. He had a great time with an average of 11.7 points, 5.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game, all career high figures.
At the end of the season, Dragic had expressed his desire to return to the Rockets but the management refused to offer him the contract he was expecting, and let him go. However, as expected, he was quickly picked up in free agency by the Suns who now look towards the future after losing their franchise player in Steve Nash.
Besides Dragic, the Suns also reached an agreement with free agent forward Michael Beasley for a three year deal worth $18 million. The Houston Rockets let go not only Dragic, but also traded Kyle Lowry to the Toronto Raptors recently as he had requested for a trade at the end of the season.
They have now put forward a back loaded four year contract offer to New York Knicks restricted free agent Jeremy Lin. The Knicks have 3 days after Lin signs the contract on July 11th to match the offer or lose him to the Rockets.
