Phoenix Suns romp past Cleveland Cavaliers 108 – 83 – NBA Recap
The Phoenix Suns didn’t have to break sweat in an easy victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday. The Cavs, playing in front of their home crowd at the Quicken Loans Arena, were no match for Phoenix and struggled to cope throughout the game, which ended
with a 108 – 83 defeat.
The Suns were led by centre Marcin Gortat, who had 22 points and 8 rebounds. Rookie Markieff Morris continued his upward motion with 22 points off the bench while Shannon Brown scored 16.
"(Gortat) ate us alive. I don't know if Tristan (Thompson) didn't know that much about him or if he didn't realize that the guy is a pretty good player. He's been playing well all season long, and tonight he just had his way." Cavaliers coach Byron Scott
said after the game.
Talismanic point guard Steve Nash once again pulled all the strings, as evidenced by his 13 assists. Nash revealed that the Suns had extra motivation for this game owing to a previous loss against the Cavaliers.
"We owed it to ourselves to have a better performance after (the Cavaliers) got us at home earlier this season. We've clawed back into the playoff picture, so we had to try and get one here."
Kyrie Irving, the number 1 draft pick this NBA season, was a bright light for the Cavs with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Omri Casspi came off the bench for 14. No other Cavaliers player made it into double figures.
Phoenix got off to a blazing start, going 12 – 0 from jump ball to grab hold of the first quarter. The gap increased to 23 – 10 at one point but the Cavs were able to claw it down to 29 – 21 in the end.
Cavaliers had a 6 – 0 burst to open the second segment and it got them to within 2 points of the Suns, 29 – 27. That though was pretty much as close as the home side got, as the Suns soon raced away again, a 9 – 0 sprint taking them to 42 – 31.
Phoenix ended the first half with a flurry, taking their lead to a massive 59 – 38.
Cavaliers didn’t look like putting up a fight after the break either. The third quarter saw them trailing throughout with massive margins. The home support knew no revival was coming in the fourth, and the gap remained around 20 points throughout before
the torment ended at 108 – 83.
