Phoenix Suns swingman Steve Nash weighing options to join Miami Heat next season - NBA Update
Steve Nash is interested in joining the Miami Heat, it has emerged.
The Miami Heat might be the strongest contenders for the NBA championship this season, but it is a known fact that they struggle big time at the point guard position. During the extended off season, there was a lot of talk about
Miami’s weakness at that position, even after the acquisition of Norris Cole in the NBA draft.
It was thought that Pat Riley, the president of basketball operations at the South Beach, might make a move to get a decent point guard but that never happened and Miami have been intent to use Mario Chalmers and Cole in that role.
The ball passing abilities of LeBron James also help. However next year, there might be a heavy weight playing at that position for the Heat.
In a candid interview on the Dan Patrick show on Thursday, Nash, arguably the best point guard of his generation, said that if the Phoenix Suns, his present team, does not add steel to their roster, he might be forced to leave
as a free agent.
And if that happens, he added, Miami would certainly be an attractive destination.
“I’d listen. (James) is phenomenal. I love what they’re doing there.” He said. “A lot of people don’t like them because they put all that talent together. But they’re professional, they play hard, they play together. Their coaching
staff has done a great job. So, I have a tremendous amount of respect for them, and I would definitely listen.”
This is an interesting development as Miami don’t really have much financial assets to offer Nash. With LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh already in the side, the Heat are capped out and are in no position to present Nash
an exclusive contract. This will put the veteran swingman who has earned more than 120 million dollars over the course of his career on the cross roads.
However, considering the fact, that at 38, an NBA championship is the only thing missing in his resume, Nash might be willing to make the financial sacrifice. If that happens, it will be a win-win situation for both sides.
Sun’s talisman is 6th on the NBA’S career assists list at 9,779 and he can prove to be a perfect piece to the fast paced Miami offense. He can prove to be the centrepiece around which not only James and Wade, but Bosh
- who often finds it difficult to find the ball on the paint - can also play.
It’s a long shot for Miami fan’s to see Nash playing for Heat but one thing is clear that he doesn’t want to be on board with Phoenix if they kept on displaying a hopeless show.
