The Phoenix Suns picked up their second consecutive win, as they cruised past the Golden State Warriors 107-101 at the Oracle Arena.
High-Flying Players
Jason Richardson was on form for the Suns, posting a team-high 25 points. Grant Hill (24 points), Steve Nash (13 points), and Channing Frye (10 points) joined Richardson
in double figures, hitting some big shots in the final minutes to ensure victory in a feisty encounter.
Monta Ellis did his best to lead a fightback from the Warriors. He posted a game-high 38 points for Warriors. David Lee added 25 points and Dorell Wright scored 10 points
and a season-high 10 rebounds.
First Quarter
The Suns limited the Warriors to just 20 points in the first quarter, and led 31-20 heading into the second.
The Sun's Richardson was the period's top scorer with 12 points.
Second Quarter
In the second quarter, the Warriors got going offensively and fought hard to get as close as they could to the Suns. They scored 29 points, while limiting the Suns to
21.
The Suns led 52-49 at the half.
Third Quarter
In the third, the Suns kept their noses in front, eventually scoring 23 points.
Phoenix took a 75-72 lead into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
Despite the close match-up in the third, the Suns controlled every aspect of this one; limiting turnovers, making shots, and playing tenacious defence.
Jared Dudley sank a pair of free throws with under seven minutes remaining to put the Suns up 93-79, their biggest lead of the night.
Rodney Carney did his best to cut down Warrior’s deficit, capping the rally with a three-pointer from the corner with five minutes left on the clock.
However Ellis's hard work came to nothing, as he missed a pair of free throws that would have closed the gap to one, and the Suns took advantage to increase their lead.
The Warriors never got any closer.
Interesting Numbers of the Game
The Suns beat Golden State for the ninth time in 11 meetings.
This match was Channing Frye’s career best with a 10th straight double-figure game.
It was Warriors fourth straight loss at home.
The teams both surpassed the 100-point mark for the 18th straight time in their series, dating back to January 2006.
Ellis reached 30 points for the fourth time this season and 44th of his career.
It was Sun’s ninth victory of the season.
