Phone Handset Feeds Back?

Question

My phone handset is allowing alot of noise through the mouthpiece and the only way I can hear clearly who is on the other end, is to put my hand over the mouthpiece.

Needless to say, I cannot respond to the caller this way. Why is this happening? How can you get around it?

Try reducing the volume control setting on the phone.

Feedback is typically caused by speaker output getting back into the microphone.
