Phone Line Adapter?

Question

I have comcast with two phone lines one which i am using as a fax line but they told me to get some sort of adapter so that i can plug the phoneline and the fax into it and i can use them both without having to unplug and plug the fax in, what is the adapter called and where can i get one from?

If you have a separate line for a fax machine, then why do you need to split the line?

You should just be able to plug in the fax machine, and it will work.

If you have a distinctive ring number, and not a second line (just a second phone number) then you still dont need the adapter. Just set your fax to recieve faxes on distinctive (or custom) ring pattern 1.

A convenient way of using two phone devices on one jack is simple. You can purchase a phone line splitter, which enables you to utilize either device at any given time. Its duality is helpful and lets you let the call go straight to fax or vice versa. You can purchase this at stores such as Radio Shack, or even online, such as Ebay or Amazon.

If both numbers are wired into the jack as they should be, you need a 2 LINE splitter. They will be marked lines 1&2. These differ from piggy-back splitters that allow you to plug 2 cords into 1 line. If you were just changing cords in the jack before, you was just accessing 1 number.

If you want to talk over the fax line or put the fax line on a 2 line phone with the other line, you will need a "duplicator".  The difference between a duplicator and a splitter is that a splitter separates line 1 and line 2 into 2 separate plugs, while a duplicator will produce line 2 on 2 separate plugs.  If you have line 1 on 1 jack and line 2 on another jack but want line 2 to go to the fax and a phone, you need a duplicator.  If you are just trying to get both dial tones out of 1 jack, you need a splitter.  You can find these at radio shack or even walmart for that matter.  Splitter says Line 1    Line 2 on the front and the duplicator is blank on the front.
