Can you use a phone cable as a ethiernet cable?

  2. no because an Internet cable is a cat5  (RJ-45) and a phone cable is just that, a phone cable...RJ-11

  3. Nope it is impossible. If your planning to use it to connect to the internet, you could just try using dial up connections. Ethernet / LAN cables are now easily bought in computer shops.

    if you are talking about using 4 pair cat 3 in place of cat 5 then yes you can get away with it, but at the cost of reduced speed...

    I have used a 25 pair cat 3 riser to provide internet access for an office from one floor to the next as a temporary solution as there upstairs office had cable modem service, and the DSL service for the downstairs office was not yet active...
