Phone calls made while not home. How did someone use the box @the side of my home?

I wasn't even in the country and got a 700.00 phone bill. Am contesting it. Was told that it could be 3 things. Someone using my phone line via the box @the side of my home, the crazy weather that went on for a few wks. during storms in houston and crossed lines. How would someone use the box on the side of my home to do that? And has anyone disputed a phone charge successfully?

  1. here is another alternative if you have a cordless phone it could have picked up another phone handset.  My phone company has removed some unknown calls on my bill but they were only a couple of dollars not 700.

Also if you made a call using your calling card someone may have seen your number and made calls on it.  700 dollars sounds like an awful lot of long distance calls to me and international ones at that.

Yes it is possible to clip on the lines and make calls on your phone line anywhere from your house to the central office where the switch is.  I've had to do that for a company that I worked for tracing out phone lines in our building to our PBX.
