Question:

Phone disconnected, DSL working, VOIP options?

I hadn't paid my phone bill and they've disconnected me. My phone service is with AT&T and my DSL is with Earthlink. My DSL is still working but my phone line isn't. I've ordered VOIP service thinking that my DSL is working and will continue to work without the phone service. Is that true? My phone bill is usually about $50 a month. My DSL is about $25 a month. This VOIP service is $20 a month. With the DSL cost and the VOIP it'll be about $45 a month total for a savings of $30 a month. Will VOIP work on the line as it is? I don't want traditional phone service anymore. I'm hoping that my DSL will continue working even if I don't have AT&T phone service. Is this possible?

  1. it is possible, YES

what you need to have is a stand alone DSL connection or in technical term they call it DRY LOOP

Just make sure of that. You can call earthlink just to make sure if their DSL will still work without the phone, since you said that your DSL and

phone service is from two different companies

Don't worry as long as you have a "stand alone dsl" connection after you double check it with earthlink, then your VOIP should work. And also please make sure that you have enough bandwidth because VOIP is very dependent on bandwidth. If you've got a high bandwidth for DSL then VOIP service wont be a problem for you

  2. yep

VOIP works  all on internet. so as long as dsl working VOIP will work
