Phone has no dial tone but working internet?

Question

for the past three days i've had no working phone line -- when someone calls the house they just get a constant ringing but when i pick up the phone, there's no dial tone. when someone calls we also don't receive the call. at the same time we had no internet as well, but this morning (two days later) we have internet. i don't understand how the phone isn't working because our direct tv is through verizon as well -- and the direct tv is working fine. so considering the internet DSL is now up and the phone is still not working, is this just a telephone line issue?

i thnk there's somethng wrong with the set...try with anothr handset...maybe that'l fix it!

dis one leg in network, dsl works on one leg over a short distance

Check the phone jack and the phone cable that is connected to the modem. The contacts may be loose. Try to spray the jacks with contact cleaner.

The continuous ringing that can be heard at the other end(caller) will tell that your phone is not connected (loose connection).
