Question:

Phone interview follow-up?

I had a phone interview yesterday. I'm thinking to follow up with a thank you note. But I only have the e-mail of the person who arranged the interview, not the e-mail of the interviewer. Should I send to the person who arranged instead?

  1. Rookie mistake.  Always get the interviewer's email address.  But since you did not, email the person who arranged it and thank that person for making the arrangement.  You can try asking the arranger for the interviewer's email address.  Try calling the company and asking for the interviewer's email address - often giving out the address is against policy but if you very nicely explain the situation and be sweet about it you can talk a receptionist or HR person into giving you the info.  Also try looking for the information on the company's website.

  2. Yes. Say you wanted to thank [ fill in name of interviewer ] for taking the time to talk to you, but you didn't have their contact info.

  3. I think you should write your follow up email to the person that interviewed you, send it to the email address you have, and indicate that you're sending it "care of" the arranger.

The person may or may not forward it for you, so you should also send a copy via US mail.
