Question:

Phone interview right after another candidates phone interview?

I have a phone interview tomorrow for a creative position with a large company. When I spoke to the HR department today she mentioned that my phone interview was right after another candidates phone interview.

Any ideas on how to stand out (in a good way) ?

And any tips? I would really appreciate it.

Thank you in advance!!

  1. The pre-screen interview will be a way for the prospective employer to screen out those applicants who don't meet the employment criteria.

Be honest, keep your voice positive, without sounding goofy or too bubbly. Avoid verbal pauses if possible (things like 'uh.....um........ahh.......)  Answer the questions directly-  I've always found it helpful to phrase the question into the beginning of my answer.  Example:  Why do you want to work for ABC Co?.  I selected ABC Co as my employer of choice because I like the company's position on . . . . . .

You may want to keep a copy of your resume handy as you answer questions, as well as any job descriptions, references, etc.- refer to them if you need to.  Make note of the interviewer's name and him/her a quick note after the pre-screen to let them know you are (or aren't) interested in the position.

Do research on the prospective employer and know how to answer questions like "are you familiar with ABC Co.?", or "What do you know about ABC Co?"

Be ready if the interviewer asks a question like "why are do you want to leave your current position?" (if you are currently working)

    Relax and be alert.

    Good Luck!
