While doing the house up I accidently, cut the telephone line at the front of the house!! The line between the telegraph pole and the house!!!!!!!

I know require a telephone in the house - how do I get some one to come out and mend the line!!!!

I telephoned a normal phone line engineer but he said he couldn't touch that line because it was the line from the pole to the house - he said I need to go to BT.

However, after trying a few times I can't get through to anyone. I tried to e-mail - I can't find one!!!

Anybody know how I can contact a BT engineer directly and not having to go through BT phone service!!!!???

Any help greatly appreciated!!!

  1. As KMFF says the part you cut would normally be the responsibility of openreach, but as you cut it on your land or land used by you unfortunately your liable to pay for it to get repaired. You can not get one of these guys from the local paper to do it for you as they have to be licensed contractor or openreach employee to work on the network(you may get them to run extensions etc. after the last network point in your premises) just imagine a plumber working on the local gas network. he would not be allowed to do it.

  2. have a look in your local paper there are ex bt engineers

it is Open Reach not bt that repair the lines have a look out for there vans flag one down he might do a foreigner?

or if you can get to a bt land line phone 150 or it might be 151

input the phone number off the line at fault and it will do a line cheak come up with a fault and an engineer will be with you the next day, but dont say you cut the line

  3. I'm not sure how BT works, but with stateside telephone providers the part you cut would be the responsibility of the telephone company. Here's how it works, the telephone company is responsible for everything up to the box on your house. Everything inside the house is your responsibility (unless you pay for the "internal wiring insurance" which is a scam). Hope that helps.

  4. Sorry mate, you have to call out Openreach ( BT ) on 0800 800 151 on residential faults, the external wire IS the property of Openreach and they are the only ones that are allowed to make any alterations to it. You are liable for the costs of the repair as you have damaged it. Good luck.
