Phone troubles, anyone have an idea?

I have an all-in-one service which includes cable television, internet, and phone.

Last night I used my phone and it was working fine. Tonight I tried to use it and I can't.

I don't get a dial tone at all. When I select a number to call then I hear the phone dialing it but, it doesn't ring...just dead air. I tried calling my land phone from my cell phone and I get a busy signal. I've tried unplugging it and replugging it and it didn't help at all.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

  1. There is a tiny hole in the back of your modem.  Find a paper clip or small pen and hit that button. Wait for it to sync back up. If you still do not have dial tone, call the phone company, they screwed up something.

  2. if you get a busy when you call your phone you have a short on your line, i assume you are calling from a cordless since you said you hear the tones when you dial. try unplugging your equipment, that means EVERYHING...phones, satellite receivers, fax machines, security systems, whatever is plugged into the phone system... do this one at a time, leave a corded phone plugged in and one at a time unplug everything, go bach to the corded phone after you unplug something, if you still have no dial tone after everything is unplugged except for you corded phone, take that phone to a different jack and try it. if you still have no dial tone try a different phone at the same jack. still no dial tone call your phone provider, its their problem. If you have a protector outside of your house with  a phone jack in it you can save some time and just open that up and plug your corded phone into that to see if you have tone there, if you do the problem is in your house, if you dont its the phone companies problem.
