I am traveling to Nova Scotia this summer. I know my cell phone will not work there. Can I get a pre-paid phone to use for a week while I am there? Or any other ideas?

  1. Why wont your cell phone work there? My phone works in the US and my friends phones from the US all work when they come to visit me.

Canada isnt China, phones arent cheap here anymore than anywhere else in the Western world - it isnt a third world country ya know and the same companies in the US are pretty much all in Canada too -

  2. If you are from the US your phone should work fine in the major parts of NS it is when you move into the outlying areas that coverage becomes spotty.  If you are from the UK unless you have a tri-band phone it won't work at all in Canada.  I have a phone for when I'm in the UK and one for in Canada.

I would suggest going into Walmart or a shopping mall to look for a cheap pay-as-you-go phone use it for your trip and throw it away or keep it for your next trip and just have it reactivated.

Have a good holiday and safe home

  3. Go Home!

  4. If you're not on a business trip, why not chuck the phone, relax, and enjoy your vacation in a beautifully laid-back province?

  5. Your phone will work in any city or town, and along most highways.  But once you're in the boonies forget it...rural areas don't have as many towers as in the US and our phones don't work once you get deep into rural areas.  There are lots of places where there aren't many people in Canada including parts of Nova Scotia where you can't get cell phone service.  I'm from N.S. and once I'm off the beaten path it's a problem.  If you stick to the TCH you won't have a problem though.
