Question:

Phonics Plus Five/Ordinary Parent's Guide to Reading?

I just read the book Phonics Plus Five, and I'm not really sure how I feel about it. There are no reviews about it that I can find, and I wanted to know if anyone out there had used it? My daughter absolutely LOATHES the Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons, so I am looking for another way. I saw another book called The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading, but they didn't have it at the library, so I haven't read it yet. Has anyone tried that? If anyone knows of any system/program other than the 100 Lessons, book, let me know! My daughter is almost four, knows all her upper and lowercase letters by sight and can write them all, and knows all the sounds they make. She really wants to read and I want to make sure that I teach her in the best way possible. I read to her for at least an hour a day every day. I really don't think I should have to spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics. Help!

  1. Connections Academy offers Hooked on Phonics. They are a free virtual public school. Are you considering homeschooling? This site tells you how to get started. It's for high school but it has links for general homeschooling too. http://canihomeschool.blogspot.com/

http://www.sonlight.com has some good programs for learning reading too!

    Best of Luck!

  2. I bought a hooked on phonics kit at JC Penneys and I liked it.  It is a good beginning and it also has a kit for more advanced readers.  The cost for one kit was about $40.
