Photo's from dvd?

Question

I would like to get some photo stills from a dvd taken of my first tandem skydive. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Most DVD playing apps, e.g. VLC, have an option to save a snapshot.  Don't expect too much though - the quality of stills taken from video is usually poor.
