Photography, Camera Obscura?

Can anyone tell me what a camera obscura is? and who uses them and why?? and when the first PERMANENT photograph was taken and who took it and what the subject was an the sort of emulsion used and the exposure time was? i cant seem to find anything on the first permanent photo, but then i guess it helps if you know what keywords to search..

A camera obscura was a device used for drawing, much like a pinhole camera, and was what eventually led to the modern camera.  They can't really say how long the pinhole camera has been around, but it predates anything we have record of.  Many historians credit the first permanent photograph to Nicéphore Niépce in 1826.  I'm not sure about the details of that photo, I just remember him being the first credited.  He later helped develop the popular photographic emulsions like physautotype, and later after his death, the Daguerreotype by Louis Daguerre with whom he worked for many years.  You should learn how to better use keywords in your search.  You'll get better results by searching photograph than you would "first permanent photo".  Photo isn't even really a word, only short for photograph.  Much of the information is readily available on the internet.
