  1. As a professional I have not seen anything like that.  There are internships but they are offered to students with some sort of prior education.

I don't have a degree on Photography or went to school for it but I'm pretty good learning on my own.

I would suggest you contact all your friends, Church membership, HS or Elementary and offer yourself as a service.  I once saw a guy advertising in Craigslist to get 'jobs' and he was asking only for gas money.  Maybe you can work for pizza?

This will give you the experience, help you build a portfolio and in the process (hopefully) give you some sort of recognition.

    Good Luck!

  2. In Europe you may be able to find an apprenticeship, but in the U.S. they really don't exist. Have you contacted your local photography studios to see if they need any help? Just be prepared to face a lot of resistance. Photographers don't often have the luxury of reshooting an assignment, so must get it right the right the first time. They tend to look for some amount of experience when hiring help. Be persistent, though, and you'll find something.

If college is not your thing, how about a technical school or, as some states call them, technical colleges. You'll have a certificate and significant experience within 2 years, often less, and they're cheaper than standard universities.

  3. I agree.  Check out the local studios.  As a photographer, and former high school teacher, I would be more likely to take on an apprentice.  But, you never know until you ask!  Also, I would look into Hallmark Institute of Photography http://hallmark.edu/ .  It is a ten month program in a college atmosphere. It is very intensive, but will give you the experience you need to take your career to the next level.  Good luck!
