What is the best way to arrange a photography portfolio?

I am supposed to be heading to University next year to study BA photography and I need a portfolio.

I do mostly portraits, landscapes and live music..how would I arrange this and how many photos should I include?

Also what is best to use as a portfolio?

  1. I would get someone who you believe has a good artistic eye and sense of design to help you.  This must be someone who will also say if they do not think a photo is good enough.  It is very difficult to be objective about your own work.

I helped a friend put together her portfolio for university years ago, she would have left out many really good photos as she was not confident in her own artistic capabilities.

Put the photos into themes, not too many on a page, just one photo if it has a strong impact.  Use photos taken in different lighting, black and white photos often have the most impact.

I think the final portfolio included around fifty photos, just remember it is quality not quantity which really counts.

P.S. She was accepted and now teaches photography at a uni.

    Good Luck

  2. ask in the BA photography dept of the Univ what they expect from your photo portfolio

they know better than everyone  what they want
