Photography portfolio for college

I'm not even sure where to start on trying to increase my chances of getting into a college with my photography. I'm a senior in high school and I just want to do my best at getting into this college. Could someone give me some pointers on where to start if I want to get a major in photography or photojournalism?

  1. It would be wise to forgo/forget college

  2. It would be best to speak with your art teacher at school or approach one if you don't have one. Art teachers know how to guide their students on what should go in a portfolio. I do know that a portfolio should consist about 20 recent works from your junior and senior year. It's ok to put 1 or 2 work from you sophomore year.

  3. I think your best bet is to work on getting a wide variety of photos to display in your portfolio.  I mean, regardless if your favorite thing to shoot is portraits, I would try and place abstracts, action shots, documentary photos, landscapes, etc...  That way you show that you can do it all, even if it is not your favorite.

I would also make the portfolio look as professional as possible, and use the best quality images that are clean and in the correct exposure.

Last of all, I would do a little research into trying to get a few photos published during this senior year. As you can display the published photo in your portfolio as well.  Look into any literary magazines, or even photo contests.

    Thanks for reading! Good Luck!
