Question:

Photography ... what do I do? Anyone book a photographer for half a day?

My brother is a professional photographer and has done quite a number of weddings over the years. I like his photos and think they're nice but I have one major reservation:

He's my brother and we really don't get along most of the time and can easily get on each other's nerves. The last thing I want is him to not listen to me and then get so annoying that I'd tell him to walk off or he'd walk off.... and I can honestly see that happening.

I'm thinking of hiring a photographer to take the ceremony and the park photos and a few reception and have my brother just take reception photos mainly. This way he'll still be taking photos, enjoying the day and we won't argue. Will that work?

Will I actually be able to hire a professional photographer for 4 hours or do they usually want the whole day's pay?

Thanks!

  1. You can hire a photographer for half a day. my brother did this at his wedding!

give a few a call, a few will probably only do full dayts but im sure a lot would do half days. they normally charge on photos taken and not on time anyway!

  2. Most professional photographers have a minimum number of hours they will work for - basically you're booking them for a whole day, as they can't work for anyone else that day. At least the good ones don't. 4 hours is generally pretty much what a basic package covers though. We only need about 2 hours, and we're getting up to 6.

Are you sure your brother wants to photograph your wedding? He might rather not have to work. Most people take the day off for a sibling's wedding.

  3. I think most photgs will charge for a product, rather than for their time. For more details, contact robspictures.com

  4. most photographers have packages based on how many hours you want.. some only use for an hour ( during the ceremony) so I think you are safe with only a few hours.

  5. I hired a photographer that has a certain package, with no limitation on the hours, however my wedding is on an "off" day (Thursday).  Just look around, explain what you want, and if it isn't on a busy day, you may be able to find someone willing to just do part of it.

  6. You could easily hire a photographer for just a half day, but make sure you explain to your brother why. You also might want to have your brother take a couple of shots before the reception too.

  7. Sit down and talk to your brother.   Tell him your concerns and hear his concerns.   I think that you both can work something out by being honest with each other.   Your both adults and I think once you both realize this, then you will come to a good agreement as to what would work out best.   I also feel that this may be a great chance for both of you to get closer in your relationship with each other.

  8. All the photographers I am speaking with work in "hours."  I'm going to hire one for 6 hours.
