  1. You could have the subject profile toward the sun as a silhouette, sun in frame to one side.

Remember a down angle is best on most woman where an up angle looks best on most men. Watch that those who have a large nose should lift their chin enough to see the upper lip. Play with each person as we are all individuals! Keep the flash at the top of your camera! dramatic lighting can be to one side however careful not to do this on older subjects as it is not nice to wrinkles. Studio lighting is topical two lights on each side, one light a bit closer (main) the other light is not as close this is the (fill) But sun light is wonderful!!! early in the morning or later in the evening is best and always use a flash for fill lighting! 2. If you want the sun in the background you would want some sort of lighting coming from behind you possibly from 2 sources and not very sharp but diffused.  If your subject is facing the sun make a screen to diffuse the sunlight.  For example, 4' square 1" X 2" frame with nylon stretched over it and secured.  As far as angle is concerned if you angle the camera downward slightly just above center your subject will look shorter.  If you do the opposite, angling the camera upward, they will apear taller.  Also, look for ways to minimize features your subject might be self conscious of.  For example, if they have a big nose, dont' take a profile picture.
