Photoshop? my colours are only gray :'(?

Im trying to colour in some lineart I made. But when I try to paint colours ect there only gray. How can I stop this?? I am new to photoshop so please be indepth with your description.

Please explain what you are doing to try to put color into your line art.  Perhaps gray is the the color selected by the tool you are using, and you need to select another color?

Go to Image>Mode then check RGB or CYMK for color
