Do plants grow from the sun's light or heat?

    It only uses the visible light from the sun for photosynthesis, except for the colour green (hence the colour of leaves as green light is reflected into our eyes).

Photosynthesis uses visible light to drive the process.  Since photosynthesis is a chemical process, it is sensitive to temperature.  If all other factors are optimal, then temperature could control the rate of photosynthesis.  Evergreens can carry out some photosynthesis even in winter as long as there is enough sunlight and water available.  There are species of algae associated with a fungus that grows in subzero temperatures in Antarctica.
